Katrina Collins

The subject of my painting has shifted from its earliest iterations as studies of the domestic and the everyday to become a distilled focus on the formalist structures of the grid and colour. In recent work I have liberated colour from subject matter so that it exists in a pure sense. I work with acrylic on canvas and board guided by an instinctive approach, informed by a lifetime of observation of colour relationships in my surroundings. Audiences respond to the way in which the colours create associations and reflect and reveal aspects of the space in which the work is displayed.
